Hi there!
For once, it hasn’t been a long time since the last post, and I promise you that this one won’t be long.
I was given a sock kit with a self-striping yarn at Christmas, and I, of course, knit Tabbies with it, but in different color arrangement and stitch. I’m sharing with you my notes as customizing tips. The original Tabbies pattern being basic, I’ve seen lots of customized Tabbies flourish, and this is my bit.
But first, I’m introducing you the kit I got: Superpool Kit by Manos del Uruguay. The yarn is their sock yarn Alegria and this color combo is named Circus.
And I knit these tabbies, with the leg and foot only in the main color, and the cuff, heel and toes in the contrasting color, and named them Self-striping Tabbies.
I guess the contrasting color should be used as I did, but with the big toe separation, very little of the red yarn was left after this pair.
In the contrary, there was still much of the large skein. And then, my daughter told me that she wanted handknit socks! I knit her “Kutsushita version” socks (with no big toe separation), and in her size, the (self-)stripes are almost perfect! I have to admit that I’m a bit jealous.
While weaving in the ends of her socks, I found the wrong side of self-striped fabric nice, and decided to make Tabbies in reverse stockinette for me. I knit the first one in partial reverse (only the main color in reverse stockinette, left), then the second one in total reverse (right), and both with the wrong side facing 😁
After much hesitation, I think I’m going to have a partial pair so my man doesn’t tell me that I’m wearing my socks the wrong side out.
And here is the tips’ file.

You can knit with it the Self-striping Tabbies, and partial reverse and total reverse Tabbies, on condition that you have the original Tabbies pattern, because there are no indications of stitch counts or measurements, etc.
Have fun 😁
